Gordon Cooper

Class of 1964

Gordon was a member of the first CIF champion team in Westminster history. He ran on the 1962 team and was 7th place in the 1963 Sunset League championships. After high school Gordon ran at Orange Coast College and then enlisted in the Army and ran for them. He participated in the 1964 and 1968 Olympic trials. He entered the coaching ranks and coached many great athletes such as Henry Rono and Edwin Moses. Gordon was known as the sergeant to Coach Hedges general. He was the one who implemented the vision that Coach had. He had great stories that entranced all that knew him and always offered insight into the running work. Unfortunately Gordo passed away in 2018. He is sorely missed.
